Artlife: The Meaning of Artlife (2001)

The origins of this album stem back to a time before the world as covered in the media changed due to a terroristic attack on American soil. Two young artists discovering an ability to create music in a Conshohocken, Pennsylvania basement. One mad, one logical. An idea that a medium wasn’t necessary to present art rather that art was to be lived and breathed daily. Artlife.
This album though abstract at times represents the ups and downs of the world. A mad photography student and a logical graphic design major joined forces. As MC Escher designed sonic landscapes from his fathers records, his own video games, movies, and various break beats; Michelangelo wrote subconscious, confusing, yet detailed lyrics about life which even he would not yet grasp.
An earlier recording previewed a few tracks that would end up on Artlife. Barely circulated it still managed to grab attention of passers by in concert parking lots and ended up being one of Michelangelos’ final school projects. (due to the photography in the accompanying CD case) It was titled “The Fundamentals of Something: Old School.” Only the best track was to be ommited from Artlife.
In the end two versions were created. The second version offered inverted cover art and a reverse track listing called “ALTLIFE: The meaning of Artlife.” Neither were intended to be sold. They were created simply for the interest in hip hop music and the reward of self expression.
Artlife created the formula which is followed through all The Starving Artists’ works.
